For Friend groups

Keep spending on friends. Stop keeping score in your head.

Track dinners, trips, tickets, and group orders in one place — so settling up is a five-minute task, not a month-long negotiation.

The usual headaches

  • One person in the group always ends up covering more than their share over time
  • Remembering who paid for which round two months later is basically impossible
  • Group gifts are a logistical nightmare when you're chasing seven people for their part
  • The longer you wait to settle, the more uncomfortable the conversation becomes

How Make It Even helps

One ongoing group for your friend circle

Run a single group for your core friends and log every shared expense as it happens — dinners, trips, gifts, anything. The running balance is always up to date.

Settle up once rather than constantly

Rather than squaring up after every dinner, let the balance grow and settle in one payment. Make It Even tracks everything in between so you can pay in one clean transaction.

Debt simplification for complex webs

When six friends have paid for various things for each other across a month, Make It Even collapses it into the minimum number of transfers — usually far fewer than you'd expect.

Shares-based splitting

For group orders where one person got an extra dish or the designated driver wants to pay less, split by shares and assign each person however many shares they should pay.

Activity feed and comments

See a full log of what was added, by whom, and when. Add a note to an expense so 'dinner — $94' makes sense a month later.

Settle via PayPal, Venmo, or Cash App

When it's time to pay, Make It Even links directly to the payment platform your friends actually use — no fiddling with bank transfers.

Get going in three steps

  1. 1

Start a group for your friends

Create a group, name it something you'll all recognize, and share the invite link in your group chat. Anyone can join without signing up first if you share a link.

  2. 2

Log expenses as the group goes about life

Add dinner, concert tickets, or a weekend trip rental as you go. Whoever paid logs it — others see their share immediately.

  3. 3

Settle up whenever it suits everyone

Check the balance any time to see the running total. When you're ready to clear the slate, Make It Even generates the shortest path to zero for everyone.

Questions

Can we keep a running tab across many months with the same friends?
Yes — a group has no expiry and no expense limit. Many friend groups run a single ongoing group and settle a few times a year rather than after every outing.
What if different friends prefer different payment apps?
Make It Even lets each person choose where to receive payment — PayPal, Venmo, and Cash App are all supported, so you're not locked into one platform.
Can one person pay for the group and get reimbursed later?
That's the most common pattern. Log the full amount with the payer, split it across the group however makes sense, and everyone sees exactly what they owe.
How does Make It Even handle group gifts where contributions vary?
Use exact-amount or percentage splitting to reflect different contributions. Add the gift purchase as an expense and note who paid what toward it.
Is there a limit to how many friends can be in one group?
No hard limit on group size. The free tier caps active friends at 5 contacts across all groups; Pro removes that limit.
