For Group gifts
Everyone chips in. One person tracks it. Nobody gets stiffed.
Create a group, log who contributed what, and share a clean public summary so every contributor can see the gift total and their own share.
The usual headaches
- Someone floats the full cost up front and spends weeks collecting reimbursements from a dozen people
- Venmo payments trickle in with zero notes and it's impossible to match them to names
- Group chats get chaotic once you hit more than five contributors
- The organizer has to manually remember who still owes and awkwardly remind them
How Make It Even helps
Public trip summary anyone can view
Share a read-only link showing the gift total, each person's contribution, and what's still outstanding. Contributors check their own status without you answering individual messages.
Exact-amount splits for unequal contributions
Not everyone chips in the same amount — enter each person's actual contribution and Make It Even calculates who still owes and how much.
Settle via PayPal, Venmo, or Cash App links
The person who fronted the gift cost shares a direct payment link. Contributors pay with one tap and the balance updates immediately.
Multi-currency for international contributors
Collecting from friends in different countries? Add contributions in each person's currency and Make It Even converts them at the rate on the day they contributed.
No account required to view the summary
Contributors don't need to sign up or download anything to see the public summary page. You handle the tracking; they just pay.
Get going in three steps
- 1
Create a group for the gift
Add the recipient occasion as the group name, invite contributors, and log the total gift cost as a single expense split among everyone.
- 2
Share the public summary link
Send the read-only link to all contributors so they can see the running total, their share, and who has already paid — no account needed to view it.
- 3
Collect and settle once
Share payment links through Make It Even and mark each contribution as settled when it comes in. One final check and the collection is done.
Questions
- Does every contributor need to create a Make It Even account?
- No. Only the organizer needs an account. Contributors can view the public summary link without signing up.
- What if people contribute different amounts?
- Use exact-amount splits to record each person's specific contribution, regardless of whether it matches a neat equal share.
- Can I collect in multiple currencies if contributors are in different countries?
- Yes. Log each contribution in the currency the person actually pays and Make It Even converts everything at that day's exchange rate.
- What happens to leftover money after the gift is purchased?
- Log the actual gift cost and any excess comes out as a positive balance for the organizer to return — the ledger shows exactly how much.
- Can I use Make It Even for multiple rounds of gifting in the same group?
- Yes. An ongoing group (like a friend circle that chips in for birthdays each year) can keep running expenses across events in one place.
